What the model demonstrates
The Brando presents a commercial resort and the nonprofit Tetiaroa Society as connected but distinct institutions. The public model combines hospitality with an ecostation, conservation programs, cultural education, partnerships, solar energy, seawater cooling, and material-recovery efforts.
Humanika should not copy an island resort. The transferable principle is structural: a paid experience can help sustain a protected place, research capacity, local knowledge, and public benefit when governance, ecological limits, and community participation are explicit.
Questions for a local adaptation
- Which revenue activity can finance stewardship without consuming the place it depends on?
- Which functions belong to a nonprofit, a cooperative, a public partner, or a responsible business?
- How are local knowledge, employment, and ownership protected?
- Which ecological indicators can stop growth before damage occurs?
